Describe the collection in 3 words…
Classic soul boy
What inspired the collection?
The source influence is the soul boy – I was one myself. And then it was also heavily influenced by the current Matisse show which I thought was amazing.
I went back to a story I did with a young David Sims for Arena Homme + magazine many years ago. Cut-out those images, created motifs Matisse-style, stuck them on soul boy silhouettes, joined the dots and there we had the collection.
What are the key pieces?
The essential shape is what I call the ‘soul boy silhouette’ - the high-waisted triple pleated chino, a slim-fitting, long sleeved shirt and white terry socks and jelly shoes.
Who would you love to see wearing it?
The most influential man in both my personal life and career has been David Bowie, so I wouldn’t mind him wearing it but other than that, anyone who loves what David Bowie does can wear Hunter Gather.
What are the pieces every man should have in their spring/summer wardrobe?
From this collection it would be the bomber jacket which comes in a beautiful powder blue colour. Then another piece I really love is the deconstructed cotton jacket – dyed, washed and then dyed again.
What’s the one thing you couldn’t get through Men’s Collections without?
Apart from coffee and without sounding cheesy, it’s the love and inspiration of the people around me. I really couldn’t do it without them.
